Concept Overview

09 July 2011
The concept which I am working on is to make some cool science toys (as it started.....)

In schools the medium of instruction is to read, write, listen – nowadays audio visual in terms of E- learning / multimedia kits have come in. Laboratories have been there for ages but they are monotonous and have a set of experiments.

Planning to design a kit for every lesson the teacher teaches, which she could carry to class – open it up.
The units pops up, which has the concept explained as objects visual entities. They can perform certain tasks interact, play with the device.

Say for example in History – gorilla war / or some strategy – it could be explained as 3d objects – pop out figures, dummy horses marching, people attacking etc., - so the even registers clearly.

For example in Georgraphy – explaining planets – two circular sheets with colour of planet inserted to make a spherical shape. The cut section of the planet can be inserted in one half. The moons an pop out from the planet etc., etc,

For example in physics – Lever, fulcrum – etc, demonstrated in class as a physical entity than  sketches and reading.

The kits would be available from 3rd std to 12th std class....

Every subject say physics will have about 10 lessons – so there will be 10 kits for each lesson
Total physics, chemistry, botany, zoology, history, geography – say about 50 kits per grade of students.
For 3rd to 12th – there will be about 500 kits, in one school...

This will be like a mini library which the schools can invest and buy – so the teacher can take that particular kit to the class, as she is teaching explain with physical objects, when class over, packs kit and replaces in the library.
Build / explain as you teach – Unpack – use - pack

The idea behind this is every one remembers the science projects that they have physically done and got involved – was thinking how these projects itself / like toys can be brought in to the classroom, so learning is not read, listen – but also get involved, observe, experiment, debate and activity based.

Opportunity – there is no one who has done such a laborious exercise in making every single lesson as visual object
Risk – Creating a product for every single concept of study is  a tedious task and time consuming to get in to the level of perfection.

Business model – These kits can be supplied to schools (every kit when opened up occupies a space of 3 x 1.5 x 1.5 feet, when closed is 1.5 x 1.5 x 0.5 thickness.
(costs less – so every school invests in the kits)

Smaller version of 5 kits combine together as a kit available in local shops.
(Cost more – so kids after seeing in school wants to own one for self learning / play)

A web portal  - teaching teachers how to use to product, videos of kids playing with product + Kids can post their own experimental models to share with others

Kids experience – Observation / Activity/ Demonstration/ Involvement/ experiment/ Debate/ explore/ share / get comments – reviews
-        explore self and inner talents

Xseed
Creative – predict – don’t mug – think – write in own words – responsible – grownup

Way we teach – Collect information , process, used their brains, reflect, act
Schools need to improve 3 things – teacher tool kit, teacher training, implementation
